Cody Webb’s Whiskey Throttle | News

Red Bull Factory KTM's Cody Webb had an uncharacteristic crash at the Bilbao SuperEnduro on the weekend.

The championship leader bobbled in the matrix section and launched off the track, Webb explains. “The first two races went very well. I felt like I was riding smooth and consistent and came away with the win in each race.

“Unfortunately, my opportunity to take my third overall victory came undone in the third and final race. I was running second but when I came around to the matrix section I made a big mistake. I just didn’t get the angle right when I lifted the front wheel and ended up falling off the side of the track. I panicked a little and then pushed too hard to regroup and ended up having a huge crash shortly afterwards. It messed my bike up a bit and I couldn’t ride properly. After winning the first two races I was disappointed to let the overall win slip away like that.”

Track marshall Goiuri Tellaetxe Salazar was unlucky to be standing at her post when Webb made the mistake as his bike whiskey throttled off the track and slammed into her, knocking her to the ground.

Goiuri was banged up but for the most part uninjured. Webb rushed to find her after the race and check she was ok. They later met up where Webb gave her a signed jersey.

Was a very special moment to see @goiurit during our team activities yesterday. I only briefly got to speak to her after the race to make sure she was okay. Luckily, she was just more shook up than anything with a couple bruises. I’m very glad she wasn’t injured during the frightening incident.
