KMC XD822 MONSTER II WHEELS | Back End | Features | Product Evaluations

If I had a dollar for the number of black rims I see at moto meets I’d be a millionaire, so we figured we’d get on the band wagon and rim up!

Okay, we know these aren’t dirtbike specific but they are dirtbike related! If I had a dollar for the number of black rims I see at moto meets I’d be a millionaire, so we figured we’d get on the band wagon and rim up!

We hit up our good mates at Wheel Pro Australia and asked them to deck us out in their most ‘gangsta’ gear. They sent down a set of KMC’s Monster II rims, so we dressed them up in some Falken four-wheel drive rubber and hit the road.

Now, not only do we gain a little street cred’ with our budget Mitsubishi Triton, but we get a more comfortable ride too!

WE RATE

APPEARANCE: We love the look of these rims. They’re tough and stylish without looking like we’re pimps
for hire.

DURABILITY: These rims have seen plenty of time off-road, which included Dylan Ruddy gutter bashing them on a three-day adventure ride through the Barrington Tops and they’re not showing any obvious scratches.

CLEANING: Because they’re black you can’t tell if they’re dirty or not and the brakepad residue does not settle on
the spokes.

SURER FEET: The Monster II rims are wider than the stock one that came with our Triton so the traction is better, espescially on the beach, with the pressures at 15psi.

WE DON’T RATE

STOLEN CAPS: Unfortunately, the Triton was broken into and the XD hub caps were stolen using the tool we left in the car. It would be good if they had lockable wheel nuts.

TYRE SIZE Because the rims are nine-inches wide we struggled to find a 4WD tyre that would fit as it seemed most places only did the tyre we wanted for an eight-inch rim. Or maybe we just didn’t look hard enough.
