Polaris Recalls 13,000 Youth Quad Bikes Due to Asbestos Contamination | Latest

The discovery of asbestos in select parts used on models throughout the Polaris youth quadbike range has triggered a recall involving 13,000 bikes.

Product Safety Australia today issued the Polaris Recall that applies to select Polaris youth quadbikes sold after December 31 2003.

What are the defects?

Certain parts in the affected quad bikes (and some of these parts sold as spare parts) may contain asbestos.
The importation of asbestos or goods containing asbestos into Australia has been prohibited under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 since 31 December 2003.

What are the hazards?

Available information indicates that these quad bikes do not pose a measurable health risk through normal use.
Consumers should not perform any maintenance, repairs or modifications on these quad bikes that may contact or disturb the bike parts that may contain asbestos – brake parts, gaskets and heat shield washers, depending on the vehicle.

What should consumers do?

Consumers should not perform any maintenance or repairs on these quad bikes that involves contacting or disturbing any potentially affected parts, as outlined in the ‘Product Description’ section above.

Owners will be contacted about the recall by a letter from their Polaris-registered address.

Owners of vehicles other than the Ace 150 should contact their nearest authorised Polaris dealer to make an appointment to have any parts that potentially contain asbestos replaced with parts that do not contain asbestos, free of charge.

Ace 150 vehicles will be repaired free of charge when normal in-service replacement of gaskets is required.
