Roczen confirms severity of hand injury | News

Ken Roczen has revealed the severity of his hand injury from his run-in with Yamaha's Cooper Webb one week ago in San Diego.

The Honda rider explained the damage was far worse than first anticipated, confirming he completely shattered his right hand, dislocation of all metacarpals and has torn ligaments.

Honda HRC released a statement following the surgery and initial recovery time is estimated to be 6-8 weeks, but that could change.

“On Friday, Ken Roczen underwent successful surgery at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO, to repair injuries sustained during his crash in San Diego,” Honda said via Instagram. “Unfortunately, the damage was more extensive than originally diagnosed. During surgery, Dr. Viola cleaned up a chip at the base of the thumb and hook of hamate, repaired the fractured second metacarpal with a plate and screws, and also repaired torn ligaments. The initial prognosis is 6-8 weeks, but Roczen will be reevaluated throughout his recovery. He will still attend multiple races and dealer appearances throughout the remainder of the season. Everyone at Honda wishes you a speedy recovery and can’t wait to have you back out there.”

Once again there was a lot going on here. Shattered hand, dislocation of all metacarpals and torn ligaments. Been in A LOT of pain since the surgery. 🙄 Sometimes we get tested in life. We take care of this shit come back and try this again.
