Ryan Dungey wins big at St. Louis | News

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Ryan Dungey captured valuable championship points on Saturday as he claimed his eighth victory of the season in St. Louis for the 14th round of the AMA 450SX Championship

Following one weekend off due to injury, Marvin Musquin returned to racing where he qualified 6th for the day and was seeded into 450SX Heat 1. In the heat, Musquin grabbed a top-five start and held tough to finish fourth place and transfer into the Main Event.

Ryan Dungey, who qualified 7th for the day, began 450SX Heat 2 with a decent start inside the top three. However, on the opening lap Dungey bumped into another rider and went down, sending him to the back of the pack. Despite a hard-charging performance, Dungey was unable to reach a qualifying position in the six-lap heat race.

In the 450SX Main Event, Dungey shot off the start with his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY to nearly capture the holeshot and the early lead, while Musquin began in the 5th place position.

BTOSports.com KTM’s Justin Brayton was riding in the third place position before another rider pushed him wide on the face on the triple, causing him to crash. This allowed Musquin to inherit the 4th place position just before the halfway mark. Musquin later went down in the rhythm section, losing several positions in the process.

At the halfway point, Roczen and Dungey began passing back and forth for the lead. Dungey was able to make the final pass stick on Roczen, where he gained some time out front. With eight laps to go, Roczen made a mistake and slid out in the corner, thus allowing Dungey to break away for the win.

“It feels good to get another win tonight and to keep plugging away at the championship points,” Dungey said. “Ken (Roczen) was riding really well and it was all about minimizing the mistakes out there.”

Musquin battled his way back from the crash but ended up running into an issue with his start device that ultimately caused him to pull into the mechanic’s area to make an adjustment. Musquin finished 15th for the evening.
