After posting the seventh-fastest qualifying time in rain-affected conditions, Waters’ opening race started strongly onboard his Husqvarna FC 450. Rounding the first turn towards the front of the pack, he quickly established himself in P2 and began steadily reeling in the race leader.
“I got off to a great start in the first race and felt like my old self,” commented Waters. “I had some good lines and was closing in on the leader until I crashed hard on the big downhill. I went over the bars, the bike landed on me, and then I got hit by another rider. I lined up for the second moto, but my wrist was sore and I wasn’t feeling it, so I just rode within my limits to sixth. The focus now is to get myself healthy before the last round next weekend at QMP.”
In MX2, Jack Kukas struggled to come to terms with the muddy, rutted circuit that caught out most riders over the course of the day. Kukas finished his Toowoomba event with 17-19 results to finish 19th overall, now ranked 17th in the championship.
“It was a tough weekend in the mud at Toowoomba,” reflected Kukas. “I just struggled to find my feet in the mud as I haven’t ridden in those conditions in a long time. It was a tough weekend, unfortunately, and hopefully I can finish the season strongly next weekend.”
