I’ve always wanted a two-stroke Honda CR250 and I saw this one and just had to have it.
WHY DID YOU BUY IT?
I found it online, but it was on the otherside of the country so I organized to have it shipped over here from West Australia. One of the reasons I really like this bike is because the handling is fantastic. I’m really happy with the frame, handling and all of that. I just ride the bike for fun. It is my version of a project bike and I have some plans to add a few things to it.
WHAT YOU DID TO IT?
Since taking possession of the bike, I’ve put a set of gold rims on it with silver spokes, the old school sticker kit with that classic CR logo, a TX Race plastic conversion kit and new Renthal handlebar. My plans for it include an FMF Fatty pipe with a shorty muffler, a top-end rebuild and a 51-tooth rear sprocket. That’s about it, I think. It’s been a work in progress for about 10 months so I just want to finish it off now and enjoy riding it. The last piece of the puzzle is getting the funds together now.
HOW DOES IT GO?
It does open up, but I think it needs a bit of a top-end freshen up. I need to get the power valve looked at and get that 51-tooth rear sporcket to really make the most of the top-end and it should go a lot better. As I said before, I love the handling, it is fantastic. It’s not a bad motor, but a little freshen up will definitely help. I’m still pretty happy with it though. I’ve also had the suspension revalved as well. I’ve grown up with two-strokes, and while I’ve tried four-strokes, I definitely prefer the power and handling of two-strokes.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT?
I would definitely recommend this bike to other people. I’d tell them it’s got good handling, and is a fun bike. Being a two-stroke they’re cheap and easy to repair. They are not overly powerful but it’s still a good bike and you’d be very happy with it. The suspension is excellent.
