If you’re in the ACT or surrounding regions and you ride dirt, then you’ve probably already heard of ACT Motorcycle Club. And if you haven’t—it’s time you did. This is one of Australia’s longest-running moto clubs, offering everything from race days and enduro loops to laid-back ride park sessions. Whether you’re a junior just starting out, a parent chasing trophies with your kids, or a senior looking for clean laps and good competition, this is where you want to be spinning laps near Canberra.
ACTMCC isn’t just a single track—it’s a full multi-track facility located at Fairbairn Park in the Canberra suburb of Majura. The club has been operating on this site since 1973, building a not-for-profit, volunteer-run community that keeps on giving back to local riders.
Today, the facility includes:
- A Main MX Track for race days and ride park events
- An Intermediate MX Track with smaller jumps for progressing riders
- A Nippers Track for 65cc two-strokes or 110cc four-strokes and under
- A Dirt Track for flat-track racing and casual laps
- Kumagutza, a flowing natural-terrain track with no man-made jumps
- A new Enduro loop, currently under construction and set to open in 2024
No licence. No membership. No pressure.
ACTMCC’s Ride Park Days are some of the most accessible, family-friendly moto events in the ACT. Held regularly throughout the year (typically Sundays), these are social riding days for anyone with a dirt bike. Gates open at 8:30am, engines fire up from 9:00am, and the riding continues into the afternoon or until everyone’s ready to pack it in.
Ride Park Days offer a chance to lap professional-grade tracks without the race-day nerves. They’re ideal for first-timers, casual riders, or anyone wanting to get a feel for the facility. You don’t even need to be a club member—but members do ride cheaper.
All Ride Park events and race meetings are posted on Facebook @ACTMCC.
ACTMCC runs annual multi-round Motocross and Dirt Track Club Championships, with race classes for juniors and seniors. Riders need the appropriate Motorcycling Australia licences and endorsements, and juniors aged 7–U16 must complete an accredited Kickstart course to begin competing.
For those new to racing:
- Seniors aged 16+ will need a Senior National Licence.
- If progressing from juniors, no extra test is required.
- New senior riders without a road licence must complete a riding assessment.
- Nippers aged 4–9 can ride in non-competitive 50cc demo classes with a Mini Licence—no assessment needed.
Championship rounds allocate points, and trophies are awarded to top three finishers, plus special trophies for Most Improved Rider and Rider of the Year in both junior and senior divisions.
If you’re chasing points, make sure you’re running a MyLaps MX transponder—otherwise you won’t be scored in the series.
The club runs Kickstart training throughout the year for juniors aged 7–16 who want to begin racing.
Coaching days are also held for:
- Beginner and novice riders
- Intermediate riders stepping up a class
- Advanced riders refining technique
Junior riders are endorsed for each bike size through the Kickstart program. A new endorsement is required any time a rider changes capacity—so don’t leave it until race morning! Senior grading (A, B, C) is also monitored and managed through the MNSW Motocross Subcommittee.
All coaching and training dates are announced in the monthly “What’s On” calendar posted on the ACTMCC Facebook page.
