AMA Supercross Round 5 Race Report | News

Ken Roczen has claimed the Main Event win at Round 5 of the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, putting an end to the winning streak of Red Bull KTM rider Ryan Dungey.

The Soaring Eagle Jimmy John’s Suzuki Factory Racing rider missed the holeshot but quickly took the lead off KTM rider Davi Millsaps and led all 20 laps of the Main Event.

Dungey found himself in unfamiliar territory rounding the first turn in eighth position but the KTM rider made light work of the competition as he moved through the field to finish in second place.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac secured his best result of the year so far with his third place finish.

The ever consistent Monster Energy 360 Fly Chaparral Yamaha Factory Racing’s Chad Reed once again found himself at the pointy end of the field and went on to record another sixth place finish, dropping him one place down in the rider points standing to fourth. At the end of Round 5, Dungey still leads the Championship with Roczen in second and Jason Anderson third.

Australia’s Lawson Bopping recorded his best finish of the 2016 Championship with 16th in the main.

In the 250SX West Coast class it was GEICO Honda’s Christian Craig who would claim his first Main Event win of the 2106 Championship, finishing ahead of Yamalube Star Racing’s Cooper Webb. Round 4 winner, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy finished third.

Australian rider, 51FIFTY ENERGY DRINK/YAMAHA’s Hayden Melrose put in another strong Main Event performance to take 16th on the night.
After the night’s results, Webb has taken back the overall points lead ahead of Savatgy and Craig.
