Honda sets the pace in Merzouga with a stage win and extends overall lead | News

Monster Energy Honda Factory Racing has had a successful Stage Three at the Moroccan Merzouga Rally.

Joan Barreda set the pace for Honda and extended his overall lead to 12 minutes over teammate and yesterday’s winner Kevin Benavides, who finished third in stage three.

The stellar performances of Honda’s two lead riders has consolidated them in the top two positions in the rally, whilst teammates Ricky Brabec (USA, 7th), Jose Ignacio Cornejo (CHI, 8th) and Paulo Goncalves (POR, 13th) have helped Honda to achieve a big presence at the pointy end of the field.

Barreda spoke humbly of his rally position, saying Stage Three was “a good day” and that he is “having a perfect rally without any mistakes but things are still very tight”. Benavides said the first half of the Marathon Stage was “full on”.
