Christian Craig Set For New Zealand Showdown | News

Geico Honda’s Christian Craig is making the trek to New Zealand as he prepares to do battle inside Mt Smart Stadium on November 24.

The grid for the 2018 Monster Energy S-X Open Auckland is set to be bolstered by another World Supercross ace.

Craig has become a staple in World Supercross competition over the last few years, with the Californian native capturing multiple podiums in the 250cc division since his debut in 2009.

Now entering his third full season with the powerhouse Geico Honda squad, Craig will be well and truly in contention for the championship, with New Zealand providing a great training platform to experience gate drops, as well as competing with against the world’s best.

“New Zealand is a place I’ve wanted to visit for a while, so having a race there heading into the World Supercross Championship really is perfect timing.” Craig commented.

“There’s going to be some really fast guys there too, so it’ll be awesome to go up against them. Dean (Wilson) and Chad (Reed), they’re both really in form at the moment, so to race them and see where we’re at will be really cool,” finished Craig.

Craig will ride under the awning of the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship winning team Penrite Honda, alongside SX1 Champion Justin Brayton and runner-up Brett Metcalfe.

Having finished in the second position at the first round of the Monster Energy S-X Open International FIM Supercross Oceania Championship in Sydney, Husqvarna’s Dean Wilson is now the effective championship leader, by virtue of round one winner – Jason Anderson, not taking part in New Zealand.

Three-time Australian Supercross Champion Dan Reardon is Just two points shy of Wilson, illustrating just how close the championship standings are.

The 2018 Monster Energy S-X Open Auckland is proudly supported by Auckland Tourism Events & Economic Development (ATEED) and Monster Energy. The inaugural S-X Open event will take place inside Mt Smart Stadium on November 24.

The Monster Energy S-X Open International Supercross FIM Oceania Championship consists of two rounds at the Monster Energy AUS-X Open Sydney (November 9-10) and Monster Energy S-X Open Auckland (November 24) events and is sanctioned by FIM Oceania (FIMO).
