Monster Energy Honda’s Joan Barreda Bort posted the fastest time in Stage 8 of the Dakar Rally ahead of KTM teammates Matthias Walkner and Sam Sunderland.
Barreda came in four minutes ahead of the KTM duo. However, after suffering a one-hour time penalty in Stage 4 the Spaniard is has a 1 hour and 10 minutes to make up on Sam Sunderland in the general standings, to win the Dakar Joan Barreda has to hope for a miracle.
Sunderland opened up his overall lead to more than 20-minutes over Husqvarna’s Pablo Quintanilla. Yamaha’s Adrien Van Beveren is 28 minutes off the pace in third.
Todd Smith is 15th overall after Stage 8, countryman Matt Hart is in 55th.
