Dean Ferris wins NZ MX Championship opener | News

Altherm JCR Yamaha rider, Dean Ferris has taken an early lead in the 2016 New Zealand Motocross Championship after claiming a hat trick of moto wins at the opening round in Timaru.

The Australian rider dominated the stacked field of talented riders in the competitive MX1 class aboard the Yamaha YZ450F in his first outing on the Timaru track.

Defending MX1 Champion, Cody Cooper couldn’t match the speed of Ferris and would finish runner-up with a scorecard reading 2-3-2. Australian Todd Waters rounded out the overall podium with a 3-2-3 finish.

The weekend’s results gives Ferris a 11-point lead heading into Round 2 at the Flipp’s track at Himatangi on February 28.

In the MX2 class Hamish Harwood won the overall ahead of Hadleigh Knight, with Australian Yamaha rider, Jed Beaton, rounding out the top three.
