Cameron Dunker has raised the bar this weekend, backing up for a resounding round win on the Diamond Park TT circuit – but it wasn’t without a fight. Dunker took Superpole with an incredibly clean flying lap before clinching the opening race from Ronan Jacobs. Jacobs was the sixth fastest qualifier for Superpole owing largely to conditions but he was incredibly fast.
Track conditions were once again impeccable after meticulous preparation from the Albury-Wodonga club and Dunker took advantage with a race two win. Max Whale and former champion Michael Kirkness came together while running in the top three and Kirkness, who had found his best form of the season, eventually slipped to sixth after showing early pace. Jacobs continued his strong run in the third encounter, making another lightning start to challenge Dunker but ultimately had to settle for second. All the while Whale had been refining his KTM package and saved his best for last. The Queenslander made an important fast start and although Dunker appeared stronger in the TT section, Whale was able to hold him off for a well earned victory. “It was a tough couple of days, tough season really, I’ve struggled a little bit,” Whale explained on the podium. “I’ve got to work on a couple of things, a lot of the boys are riding really fast.” John Lytras capped off his weekend with a podium over Jacobs, who later revealed he had to race with a borrowed bike. “I had some trouble with the gearbox on my bike yesterday so I have to say a big thanks to Ronny Moody, I wouldn’t have been able to race if it wasn’t for him.”
Jed Fyffe has been an unstoppable force in Junior Lites this year and round four on the TT circuit at his home track, Albury-Wodonga’s Diamond Park, was no different. Fyffe showed his level by taking out every race – but he is also raising the bar for the chasing pack with runner-up Tahj Edwards able to make an overtake. Lenny Duggan took out third overall with Nate Jaeger also chipping in for a podium in race two. “It was definitely another good day and great weekend overall,” Fyffe commented on the podium. “Huge thanks to everyone that makes this possible – Franko and Adam that prepare my bike in Townsville – and of course, my dad. I’m pumped for this awesome meeting!”
In Junior 85s it was Flynn Beard who took the honours again, winning two races and taking second twice. Beard was perhaps the strongest over the weekend but was challenged by Brody Ford, who had won the opening race. Cooper Quinn continues to impress in his first year of flat track, coming to grips with the discipline and winning the final race of the day. Kru Tullochdropped his bike in the last race to salvage sixth – a result that cost him a spot on the overall podium.
With Pro Twins only competing on the flat track layout, the 65 Trackers returned to the program for the TT course on Sunday and they were led by Oscar Ryan. Ryan, who was making his AFTN debut. Harley Ford and Regan Quinn filled the overall podium while in the All Powers Over 35s it was Neil Girdler and David Smith battling at the front again. Girdler was sensational with his three race wins elevating him to the top spot in the standings. David Smith picked up one race win to take second overall while a consistent Ajay Muggleton took third.
