Eli Tomac clinches third-straight AMA Motocross Championship | News

Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac has wrapped-up his third straight Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at the penultimate round at Budds Creek.

Tomac went 1-1 to squash the hopes of title rivals Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) and Ken Roczen (Honda) who were 40 and 41 points behind, respectively.

The win marked the 22nd of his career and puts him in a tie with Ricky Johnson for fourth on the all-time 450 Class win list. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Jason Anderson used an impressive second moto charge for second overall (4-2), while Musquin completed the podium in third (3-3).

“This is such a special way to end the weekend, and not something I really anticipated happening with one round to go,” said Tomac. “I honestly didn’t even know I had the championship until the last lap. I thought that I needed one more spot from the guys behind me, so that was a little bit of a surprise. It was good to get the job done today. It’s tough to beat the first championship, but they’re all special and unique in their own ways.”
