An historic five-year agreement for the creation and development of the new FIM Freestyle GP World Championship was signed on Tuesday 17 June by FIM President Jorge Viegas and FLY ACTIONS Director Patxi Larrea. For its debut season in 2026 the competition will be run as the FIM Freestyle GP World Cup before being elevated in 2027 to become a full FIM Freestyle GP World Championship.
Born out of a desire for continuity and growth, the new series aspires to set the benchmark for this spectacular sport, both for riders and the general public. Utilising a global platform to highlight Freestyle, events will be held across several continents with the world’s leading athletes coming together to contest this highly-prestigious competition.
With over twenty-five years’ experience of organising national and international events, FLY ACTIONS has an established track record of excellence in sports including Motocross, Supercross and Freestyle and more recently has branched out into athletics, cycling and corporate events.
The full 2026 schedule is yet to be finalised, but the action will get under way on 20 December 2025 at Pamplona in Spain followed by round two on 28 February 2026 at a venue to be announced and third round will be staged in October 2026 at a European venue that is still to be confirmed.
With this new initiative, FLY ACTIONS and the FIM aim to give a decisive boost to the Freestyle discipline, professionalising its competitive structure and providing a global showcase for this spectacular and constantly evolving discipline.
Patxi Larrea, FLY ACTIONS Director, said: “The agreement with the FIM marks a turning point for Freestyle at the international level. Our goal is to offer a championship that combines the highest sporting standards with a dynamic, accessible and exciting format for fans around the world.”
Jorge Viegas, FIM President, stated: “The FIM is firmly committed to the development of the Freestyle discipline and this championship represents a key step for its international expansion in an official framework. We are confident that after a test year of three events in 2026 we will be able to develop it into a world championship that will bring together the best riders in the world in this discipline through a series of events organised on several continents from 2027.”
