Honda's Factory riders emerged victorious in all three classes (SX1, SX2, and SX3) at RD 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship in Newcastle, NSW.
Dean Wilson’s flawless season in the 450-class continued at RD 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship in Newcastle, NSW, as he clinched victories in all three main events after securing the top spot in qualifying. The track changed significantly throughout the day and night, becoming increasingly unpredictable.
“I had to be patient tonight, the track became super slippery, it was really unpredictable,” said Wilson.
Wilson currently boasts a substantial 24-point lead with just one round left in the competition after RD 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship in Newcastle.
“My first goal is to win the championship, I won’t jeopardize that, but it would be nice to finish the championship with another win in the teams home town of Melbourne,” said Wilson.
Dean’s teammate, Justin Brayton of Boost Mobile Honda, had a challenging night to say the least. He secured 2nd place in the first two finals but experienced a significant crash in the final race entering turn 1. This unfortunate incident left both him and his bike battered and bruised.
“I am really disappointed; this wasn’t how I wanted the night to go. My goal is to finish 2nd in the championship and support the team,” said Brayton.
Kyle Webster, the team’s third 450 Boost Mobile Honda rider, endured a challenging night. He was involved in a collision with another rider in race 1, resulting in a hard crash. Additionally, an unavoidable crash occurred in the third and final race where he collided with a fallen rider and went over the bars. Kyle is now shifting his focus to the final round.
In the 250 class, Max Anstie showcased dominance by winning all three finals and securing overall victory. The Boost Mobile Honda rider now commands a 24-point lead over his competitors with one round remaining.
“I can’t complain too much, the track was a little challenging and I needed to ride smart, but it was fun, the fans were great and I enjoyed the night. I will now focus on the final round where I want to wrap it up with another win, the bike, the team, everything is working well,” said Anstie.
Wilson Todd, the Terrafirma Honda 250 rider, faced a challenging night, finishing 5th in the first race and dropping to 15th in the second race following a scary crash. The team fixed the twisted bike for the final race where Wilson managed a 4th, resulting in an 8th place overall finish for the night. Currently, Wilson holds 5th overall in the championship, trailing the top 3 by 5 points.
In the SX3 class, Parker Ross of Polyflor Honda exhibited true determination after crashing in his heat race and injuring his shoulder. The resilient 18-year-old impressed by controlling the race and securing another victory for the season. With a 12-point lead, Ross heads into the final round with confidence.
“I hurt myself in my heat race crash, I want to thank the Racesafe team for strapping my shoulder and the team for getting my bike ready for the final. The battles have been good with the other riders and I can’t wait for the final round in Melbourne,” said Ross.
The final round of the Australian Supercross Championship runs in conjunction with the World Supercross Championship in Melbourne, Victoria on the weekend of the 24th and 25th of November.
