SHAVED

TROUBLE

Many rocker cover gaskets are made from rubber and have these half-moon sections in them where the cam gears are located. Even once the rocker cover is tight, these sections can often weep with oil.

TRICK

Place a small bead of silastic on the sealing surface around the half-moon sections where the gasket will seal. This will dry and form a tighter seal and prevent the gasket from weeping.

FUEL HOSE

TROUBLE

When the fuel tank is removed from the motorcycle dirt has the potential to fall inside the fuel hose. The KTM two-stroke range comes with a small hole in top of the top of the chain guide to prevent this from happening.

TRICK

Once the fuel hose is disconnected, place the end of the fuel hose down through the hole in the chain guide. This will stop any debris falling inside the fuel hose while it is disconnected.

Stuck Seal

TROUBLE

As forks get old and wear or the seals and bushes get tight they can become difficult to get apart to change the seals and bushes. This is especially true for old Showa forks like these ones.

TRICK

Before trying to remove the seals and bushes, heat the outer fork tube with a heat gun. This will loosen the bushes and seals and allow the forks to come apart easier without causing any damage.

PLUG TRICK

TROUBLE Many four-stroke spark plugs are located down inside the cylinder heads that make them difficult to remove or to thread into place.

TRICK

Place a rubber hose over the end of the plug and fit it into place by feeding the plug into the cylinder and threading it in with the rubber hose. Then remove the rubber hose by pulling it off and then tighten the plug with a socket.
