CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team racer, Jed Beaton, returned to the winners’ circle at round six of the ProMX Championship at Toowoomba.
After three round of finishing in second place, Jed Beaton returned fire at Toowoomba to take the round win and keep the points gap between himself and championship leader, Kyle Webster, to just seven points with three rounds remaining.
Beaton finished the day with 2-1 results and tied with Webster with his 1-2 results but Beaton’s better finish in moto two gave him the round win, but more importantly didn’t allow the points gap to increase as the intensity builds towards the end of the championship.
The day started well for Beaton as he was able to muscle his way to the lead in race one and he then tried to break away. Webster went with him, and the duo cleared out to an engrossing race on their own. For 20 minutes, Webster stalked the Yamaha rider and ultimately wrestled his way past in the later stages of the race forcing Beaton to take another second-place result.
Using the emotion of race one to fuel him, Beaton was slow out of the gate again, but by lap three he had charged his way to the lead, and this time, determined to not let it go. He maintained his pace and intensity for the full race distance and eventually took the race win by over 20 seconds to restore some confidence and keep the championship alive.
“I had to make a stand this round and stay in the fight,” Beaton said after the final race. “If the points got out to thirteen with four races to go, then all Kyle had to do was follow me around at the last two rounds and he would have won. I wasn’t about to let that happen, so the goal today was to either get some points back or at the very least, not let the gap get any bigger.
“The first race was a little disappointing. My arms tightened up a little and didn’t ride with a lot of flow, but race two was much better and it was good to get the race win and give the team a reward for all the effort they have been putting in.
“We have a couple of weeks between now and the final two rounds which are both in Queensland. It’s back to work again and try and build on how we left here today as I know this will come down to the final race between myself and Kyle, but I’m loving the challenge,” Beaton ends.
Round seven of the ProMX Championship now moves to MX Farm in Gympie on August 11. The fast and flowing track up and down the hills on the north side of Gympie make for a stunning racetrack and one of the rider favourites on the ProMX Circuit.
