Sherco rider Jonte Reynders has claimed victory in the E2 class on both days of the 2024 AORC finale in Nowra.
The Motul Pirelli Sherco team closed out the 2024 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) with a statement performance from team rider Jonte Reynders at Nowra, NSW, during the final two rounds of the season. Reynders delivered a stunning display, claiming outright and class victories in both rounds 11 and 12. However, despite his best efforts, Reynders ultimately finished as the runner-up in the hotly contested E2 class, just 14 points behind championship leader Daniel Milner.
Saturday’s penultimate round saw Reynders tackle the regular sprint format on the dry Nowra test track, where he laid down the fastest overall time of 1:27:19.613. This stellar ride allowed him to gain crucial points and keep the pressure on Milner, who had been leading the class despite suffering from injury.
On Sunday, Reynders doubled down with another blistering performance, finishing 1st outright with a time of 1:08:24.043, once again securing valuable E2 points. With back-to-back victories, Reynders capped off the season on a high note, but it wasn’t enough to overhaul Milner’s lead.
Reflecting on the weekend, Jonte Reynders commented: “Overall, I can’t complain about our weekend. We were the fastest on both days and finished out the season on a high! Hats off to Milner on his season and championship; he was the man to beat this year, and I really enjoyed racing against him. He’s one of our best-ever enduro exports. I felt like we were able to inch closer each weekend but just ran out of time to claw back the points. It feels like a bit of déjà vu; we got the double victory at the final rounds last year and were runners-up by 17 points, so to repeat that again and the deficit of only 14 points, at least we’re moving forward! It’s great to finish out the season with some strong finishes, and I can’t thank the Motul Pirelli Sherco team, sponsors, and my mechanic Derek Grundy enough for their support.”
While Reynders came tantalizingly close to clinching the E2 championship, his consistency and strong performances throughout the season affirm his status as one of Australia’s top enduro talents. The Motul Pirelli Sherco team looks forward to building on this momentum as they prepare for the 2025 season.
