Round 1 of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Australian Motocross Championship delivered a full spectrum of emotions for Honda Racing Australia and its fans. Competing in all four classes, the team celebrated race wins, overall victories, and endured some tough crashes that left riders sidelined.

MX1: Webster’s Win and Wild Crash
Reigning MX1 champion, Boost Mobile Honda’s Kyle Webster, made a strong statement by dominating the first moto, leading from start to finish. However, a dramatic crash in Race 2 saw him unable to finish after being thrown hard to the ground.

“What a bummer. I was happy with the first moto, even though I rode tight. I actually felt a lot better in Race 2, but I got caught out and hit the ground hard. This isn’t how I pictured Round 1, but that’s the reality of racing. I hurt my back a bit and I’ll be sore for a few days, but I got lucky—it could’ve been much worse,” said Webster.

Repco Honda’s Wilson Todd made a solid return after a seven-month injury layoff, finishing eighth overall with 5-10 moto scores.

“It’s not great, but considering I’ve only had five days on the bike after seven months off, I’ll take it. The speed is there, and we have some work to do, but I’m leaving with solid points. I’m just a few points off third in the championship, and that’s where I want to be after Round 4,” said Todd.

MX2: Connolly Conquers, Larwood on the Podium
It was a dominant yet eventful weekend for Polyflor Honda’s Brodie Connolly. He took the first moto win but faced adversity in Race 2, crashing while leading and getting hit by another rider. Despite the setback, he remounted and still took the race win and the overall victory.

“Not the way I planned to win—crashing definitely wasn’t ideal—but it was a strong weekend. My fitness is great, the bike is solid, and I’m feeling confident,” said Connolly.

National Finance and Loans Honda’s Alex Larwood rode consistently to third overall, securing 3-3 moto finishes.

“Of course, I want to win like everyone else, but today was about starting strong, especially after how last season started for me. I need to work on my sprint speed, but overall, it was a solid day,” said Larwood.

MX3: Kingsford and Alsop Shine
Pro Honda’s Kayd Kingsford delivered a smart and steady
performance, securing second overall with two runner-up finishes.

“I rode a little tight but played it smart. It’s Round 1, and my goal was to get through without any big problems,” said Kingsford.

A standout performance came from Ride Red privateer Jet Alsop, who finished third overall, making him the highest-placed privateer in MX3.

Women’s Motocross & Oceania Championship: Cannon’s Complete Domination

It was a flawless weekend for SCT Logistics Honda’s Charli Cannon, who dominated every race. She won all three motos convincingly, with her Race 2 victory coming by a staggering 1 minute and 20 seconds.

Her performance along with all Australian riders helped Team Australia secure the Women’s Oceania Championship.

“What a dream weekend—qualifying first, winning all three races, and Australia taking the Oceania Championship! The team, the bike—everything was just perfect,” said Cannon.

With Round 1 in the books, the team now shifts focus to Round 2 in Appin in three weeks. For more information, visit www.auspromx.com.au.
