Aussie takes home three top ten finishes as Max Anstie extends title lead with overall victory in Sweden

Quad Lock Honda’s Alex Larwood made an immediate impact at the Swedish GP, delivering a composed and mature performance on debut in the SX2 World Supercross Championship. The young Australian logged 10-7-7 finishes for equal eighth overall, exceeding expectations in his first international pro outing.

“The track was rough and the ruts were deep,” Larwood said. “My goal was to be consistent, minimise mistakes, and get through safely. I wanted a top ten and we achieved that.”

While Larwood impressed in his maiden appearance, the round victory went to Max Anstie, who extended his championship lead by dominating both sprint races before bringing the bike home safely in the Main Event. Race 1 saw Anstie carve through late to pass Michael Hicks and Shane McElrath in a dramatic final two laps. He then holeshot Race 2 and pulled away decisively.

But the Main Event belonged to Enzo Lopes, who seized the holeshot and resisted heavy pressure from both Anstie and McElrath. “I finally got a good start and it was not easy because Max and Shane were on me the whole race, especially the last turn,” Lopes said. “The win feels amazing and I want to thank everyone in Brazil watching.”

Anstie, who secured the overall on cumulative points, described the final race as a survival effort on a punishingly rutted circuit. “Well, that was a tough one… I had a moment where my feet came off at one point and I twisted my ankle – twisted my legs – and I was like, ‘OK, I’m just bringing it home right now’. That was tricky. The track was tough, so I just focused on bringing it home.”

Quad Lock Honda’s Shane McElrath also delivered a crucial points haul with 2-6-2 finishes for third overall, moving within three points of second in the championship. “My riding was okay, but my starts were horrible,” he said. “We made up great points this weekend. Max is out of reach, but we’re pushing hard for second.” Reflecting on the Main Event battle with Lopes, he added: “It’s a little bittersweet… We are still fighting. It is not super easy but I am learning and getting back.”

Team Director Yarrive Konsky praised both riders and the squad’s renewed momentum. “It’s going down to the wire, one point separating three riders,” he said. “We claimed three podiums, extended our teams’ championship lead, and we’re heading into the final round fighting for titles.”

The SX2 World Supercross Championship will be decided next week in Cape Town, South Africa.
