Another month, another round of punishment for the Beta RR 300 Racing. The bike is still performing like a champ, but it’s starting to look like it’s survived a small war. The pipe is banged up, the clutch cover is flogged, and the black swingarm is wearing its scars proudly. But mechanically? It’s flawless.
This month, I hit up my usual hard enduro spot, which was as slick as a politician thanks to a good soaking of rain. The wet conditions made the already challenging terrain even tougher – but also way more fun. One of the boys who spends more time up there than I do had cut in a few new tracks and, naturally, we had to check them out. The new lines are prime – tight, technical and full of surprises.
Now, let’s talk about tyres. If you’ve ever ridden in the wet on standard tyres, you know the drill: they’re about as useful as a chocolate teapot. But this time, I’d swapped out the old rubber for a set of Mitas Terra Force-EX gummies, and let me tell you, these things are a game-changer.
The EX tyres are incredibly malleable, practically wrapping themselves around the rocks and terrain to deliver maximum grip. It’s almost unnatural how much traction they get – it feels like cheating. The gummy compound hooks up where other tyres just spin hopelessly, and in the wet, they’re nothing short of epic. It’s the kind of grip that makes you feel like a hero, even if you’re just a punter like me.
To make things even better, I paired the Mitas EX tyres with my old Nitro mousse tubes, which have softened up nicely over time. The combination of the malleable tyres and the squishy mousse creates an unstoppable setup. You can crawl up anything, no matter how slick or steep, and it takes the edge off impacts on jagged rocks.
With the Mitas Terra Force-EX tyres and soft mousse combo, this month’s wet rides were some of the most enjoyable yet. The grip is out of this world, and the new tracks added a fresh layer of fun to my usual loop. The Beta’s still a beast, and with this setup, there’s nothing I can’t get up – for a punter, at least.
