It’s been a super busy month for me and the Sherco 300 SEF Factory as my moto club, Oyster Bay MCC was tasked with running the final AORC event of 2024 at the Nowra Motoplex. After 5 years of cancellations due to Covid and wet weather, we were finally able to run the race. It is a huge undertaking for the club and countless hours go into running such an event. I was in charge of the tracks and thanks to the guys at the Nowra Motoplex, I was able to run around the complex in a skid steer and freshen up many of the existing trails on the property.

If you have ridden at the Motoplex, you would know that when the conditions are right, the enduro tracks out there are some of the best in the state. When the dirt is prime, there isn’t many places more fun to ride. Unfortunately for us, after years of battling rain, we battled high winds and hot days in the weeks leading up to the event which led to a much drier track that we had hoped. Still, everyone was stoked with what we did, and it was awesome to have such good feedback from everyone there.

As far as how the Sherco 300 SEF Factory and I faired for the event, well, we had a real good time. Being that I’m 35 now, I was able to enter myself in the Vets class for the weekend and man did I have a ball. I am however, really out of bike shape at the moment just with everything going on in life, so I knew that the long tests were going to be a mission to survive.

The Vets, Masters and Clubman classes started the weekend on the longer loop which was about 12 minutes long for Saturday and then we switched to the 10-minute lap on Sunday. With a huge mix of tight and twisty corners, flowing single track, and sections of moto track, the Sherco 300 SEF Factory was absolutely in its element.

To my surprise, I actually rode pretty decent all weekend and didn’t really have any issues apart from my fitness. I was able to find my rhythm and I was stoked to have laid down plenty of solid times throughout both days of racing. I was even more stoked to take the win in the Vets class both days and man, I had so much fun on this bike throughout the weekend.

It was loving the tracks and impressively, the KYB suspension was working a treat. With how rough and rugged the tracks got, I never even touched a clicker all weekend. The only bike work I did was throw some fresh Uni Filters at it to tackle the dust.

Another cool part of the weekend was that I was pitted under the Sherco team tent with their AORC rider, Jonte Reynders and he is also on a Sherco 300 SEF Factory. He actually crushed it all weekend and took the overall win both days so congrats to him. It was cool to see that small team kicking goals and I know for the man behind it all, Derek Grundy, it was nice way to cap off their season so congrats to those guys. So, a big shout out to the Sherco Australia guys for allowing me to be under the tent for the weekend, I really appreciate it.
