It’s been three months now with the Sherco 300 SEF Factory and I’ve managed to get a solid mix of riding in, including an AEC off-road round along with some trail riding and motocross. Now that the suspension is sorted and the setup is pretty much where I want it, I’ve really started to enjoy the bike and get more comfortable with the motor.

From a maintenance point of view, it’s been straightforward. I’ve put around 15 hours on the bike so far and done three oil changes. I’ve had to tighten the chain a couple of times, but aside from that it’s just been regular air filter changes and everything has been faultless.

I was also lucky enough to throw on a set of Dunlop AT82 tyres, which made a noticeable difference compared to the stock FIM tyres. The Dunlops suit our conditions a lot better and made racing far more enjoyable. I’ve also added a set of ODI handlebars and grips, along with some ARC Levers, just to dial in a bit more personal comfort.

My results at the first round of the AEC weren’t as good as I hoped. I was around 5th on Day 1 and with Day 2 rained out I didn’t get the chance to rectify that. The guys in front of me are younger, fitter and slightly faster but I reckon as the season goes on I should be able to catch up. I had a great time though as I took some mates ot go racing that had never raced before and they had an absoluet time!

There are still a couple of things I want to play around with, mainly the gearing. The bike is currently running a 48-tooth rear sprocket and I’m looking to go to a 50. The idea there is to carry third gear a bit more in the bush and hopefully settle the bike down by riding in a higher gear more often.

Looking ahead, the plan is to spend more time on the bike in the trails leading into the Dungog rounds three and four, which is a two-day back-to-back enduro. That should mean plenty of seat time over the next month. At this stage I’m not looking to change too much as I’m happy with the setup, it’s more about getting comfortable, building consistency, and making small tweaks where needed.
