M2R has launched the X5, an all-new pro-level motocross and off-road helmet developed over thousands of hours with input from some of Australia’s leading racers.

Nearly 30 years of competition and development has gone into the X5, with Australian motocross racers Todd Waters and Brett Metcalfe contributing to the development process. Their feedback helped shape areas including fit, comfort, ventilation, peak flexibility and roost protection.

The X5 introduces M2R’s new seven-piece X-HALO PLUS system, which creates an additional fourth layer of protection within the helmet. The shields are designed to provide additional low-speed impact and rotational-impact management.

M2R says the X-HALO PLUS material changes at a molecular level during an impact, with its molecules locking together to help absorb and dissipate energy. The seven shields are also shaped around the rider’s head to contribute to a secure fit.

The X5 is ECE 22.06 certified, with M2R stating its protective performance exceeds the certification requirements.

Two different shell constructions are available. MIT PRO uses a laminated synthetic-fibre-reinforced fibreglass shell with strategically positioned reinforcement panels, while the higher-spec CARBON MIT PRO uses an aramid-reinforced carbon-composite shell. Aramid panels are positioned beneath the carbon layers to add strength while keeping weight down.

M2R has also put considerable work into how the X5 actually feels on your head. Its Immersive Fit system combines a three-dimensional comfort liner with multi-density foam and crown and cheek pads designed to eliminate concentrated pressure points.

Safety features extend to the ESRS Emergency Safety Removal System, allowing first responders to remove the cheek pads more easily, while the helmet is also compatible with the EJECT helmet-removal system.

Australian summer motos were clearly high on the priority list, too. The X5 features a massive 11 intake vents and seven exhaust vents, working with channels through the four-piece EPS structure to move cool air across the rider’s head and push hot air out the rear. The peak has also been shaped to help direct air towards the intake system.

Seven finishes will be offered at launch: Matt Black, Fury PC-1, Fury PC-2, Fury PC-5F, Forged Carbon Fury PC-5F, Carbon Gloss and Lusk Replica PC-2.

The M2R X5 starts from $549.95, with pricing varying depending on shell construction and finish. Availability will also vary across colours and sizes.
