Getting spoke tension right has always been a bit of a hit and miss operation for most of us working in the shed at home. Like a great many of you I’ve been using the tap it with a screwdriver method but I’ve never been able to get the same note from every spoke even when they were all tight. The magic little Fasst Company Spoke Torque Wrench takes all the guesswork out of the operation and replaces it with total uniformity and since my first test, I’m loving it even more.
WE LIKED
As I have a few different bikes in the shed with different sized spoke nipples I liked that the Fasst Company Spoke Torque Wrench came with interchangeable heads of differing sizes. The instructions are clear, simple and easy to follow explaining how to tighten one spoke, miss two then tighten the fourth until you are back to the first spoke. You then repeat the pattern from spoke number two. This means you go around the wheel three times to return to spoke one keeping it running true.
WE DIDN’T LIKE
The markings on the side for different tension settings do not contrast sufficiently with the chrome finish and are hard to see clearly in some light. It’s not a major problem as a bit of moving both your head and hand will make them visible, but it could be better.
VERDICT
I wasn’t aware of any real problems with my spokes, but was surprised by how many were out of adjustment and some by quite a bit. Ten minutes in the shed with a coldy, the Fasst Company Adjustable Spoke Torque Wrench and some good tunes on the shed radio will give you complete confidence in your wheels structural integrity and who doesn’t want that?
