It’ll be all the line at QMP as the Pirelli MX2 title boils down to a spicy intra-team shootout between Honda Australia Racing duo Alex Larwood and rookie Kayd Kingsford.
After his 2-1 results at Green Park, Larwood holds a 26pt advantage – but the gap could have been so much closer if Kingsford wasn’t caught up in a melee at the start of moto two. He eventually finished ninth, while Larwood took maximum advantage by claiming his 10th win of the season.
Despite his lowly moto two finish, Kingsford (1-9) still finished third overall in Conondale behind Larwood (2-1) and Dylan Walsh (KTM Factory Racing, 3-2), and ahead of Ryder Kingsford (Honda Racing Australia, 5-4) and Byron Dennis (KTM Racing Australia, 4-6).
The pace was lightning fast in moto one, as agreeable track conditions saw the MX2 top brass set the fastest lap times of the day – with Kayd Kingsford setting the benchmark at 2:07.710. Reid Taylor (Honda) was a DNF in that outing before a brilliant third in moto two, right on the bumper of Walsh.
Walsh and Dennis, who will lead the local wildcard charge in the MX2 class at the MXGP of Australia in Darwin, are equal third in the ProMX standings on 249pts, making for an intriguing bronze battle at QMP.
