Young Oliver Reid has stepped up to a pukka race machine and wants to show us his epic 2017 KTM 50 SX.
WHY DID YOU BUY THE 2017 KTM 50 SX?
My parents brought me this bike to help me transition from my Yamaha TT-R50 to a 50cc race bike and to introduce me to a two-stroke motocross bike. I’m very excited about getting in the ADB Reader Ride section because my dad has been in it before!
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO IT?
We have done a full rebuild on this bike for the 2024 race season. We went with Vertex for our complete top- and bottom-end. We’re also running an 11-tooth sprocket on the front and 38-tooth sprocket on the rear. We have upgraded to a FMF full exhaust system from factory standard.
We have had our carburettor jetted and retuned for racing and we’re also running Cheetah race fuel. Also we have a brand new OEM clutch fitted and we have added the heavy duty clutch springs which has turned this bike into a complete weapon.
We have added new plastics to the bike and new race sticker kit for our 2024 season so it looks fresh.
HOW DOES IT GO?
This bike is a machine, for a kids bike it has a lot of power. We have the clutch adjustment set to one of our highest settings for best performance. Being a two-stroke with a lot of power it definitely makes me happy to be riding my bike every time. With our modifications it’s a dream race bike for a kid jumping on to a KTM 50SX.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BUYING ONE?
I would recommend every kid to least have or try a KTM 50 SX. They’re essentially the only bike to jump on to get into racing. The KTM 50 SX is the first step for a kid to start racing on a motocross bike.

1: I would love to take out the westerns region and Victorian State Motocross titles.
2: Making friends and training together makes this more fun. Jaxson Box and Riley Saliba are my friends.
