REVIEW: FLY F2 CARBON HELMET | Product Evaluations

The Fly F2 Carbon helmet that I have been running for the last few months is a mid-priced helmet with a carbon-matrix composite shell.

It has a dual-density EPS liner, rubber trim with integrated noseguard, machined aluminium peak screws and a removable, washable Coolmax liner and cheekpads.

It is fitted with MIPS technology to reduce rotation being transferred to the brain from angled impacts. Fly uses TFV (True Functional Ventilation), meaning that air is forced through multiple air vents. So it has some top features despite the reasonable price.

WE RATE

FIT A snug, comfortable fit is what I am looking for in a helmet so that I know it is doing a good job of protecting my head. The F2 sure ticked all the fitting boxes. I generally use a Medium in most helmets and the Fly sizing is no different.
WEIGHT The lighter the better, I reckon, and weighing in at 1240g the F2 is at the lighter end of the scale so that is a plus.
SAFETY I felt confident and safe riding in the carbon matrix shell with the MIPS brain protection system but never tested any of those features by crashing and don’t plan on doing it either.
VENTILATION All of the riding I did wearing the F2 was during summer days, providing a good chance to test the TFV ventilation system. It did a good job of keeping sweat to a minimum.
BALANCE I am a big fan of how balanced the F2 felt on my head. Some helmets feel heavy in the front but not this one. The peak also has a large range of adjustability, making it versatile in changing weather conditions.
FINISH The F2’s finish is top quality with very clean colour lines that stand out in a crowd. I’m a fan of the fluoro yellow and black design.

LINER Honestly there is not much to dislike with this lid. If I was being super fussy, I would say that the liner could be a little easier to re-install after taking it out to wash. I did struggle getting it back in place. Other than that there are no complaints. Ben Grabham

VERDICT

With a price tag of $399.95, I believe you are getting a bargain here. The Fly F2 Carbon ticked all the boxes for my head. No, I did not crash-test it but I think it would be fine. We test plenty of products and some don’t make this section, only the good stuff does, so when I said I really found it hard to find anything negative about this helmet I meant it. With so many colours and styles I am sure anyone can find one they like. BG
