Tomac claims San Diego win and Championship lead | News

Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac has won his first 450SX Main Event of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Championship in testing conditions in San Diego.

The hard-fought victory has seen Tomac assume the championship points lead by a slim four points over KTM’s Marvin Musquin and Honda’s Ken Roczen who are equal second on 102 points.

Musquin was the second place finisher only four seconds behind Tomac, Roczen claimed the final step on the podium seven seconds back. Roczen was on track to finish second but a bobble on the last lap allowed Musquin to overtake the German rider and claim second place.

JGR Suzuki’s Chad Reed thrived in the muddy conditions and earned his best result of the season with a fifth in the Main Event. Reed is ninth in the championship standings.
