The final round of the 2023 Australian ProMX Championship spelled both elation and disappointment for the Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing team, as MX3 title contender Jack Mather fought his way to a gritty runner-up result, while MX2 racer Blake Fox missed out on scoring points with a second-moto DNF.

After qualifying in 25th in the MX2 class, Fox found himself mid-pack off the start of the opening race. However, aboard his 2023 Husqvarna FC 250, Fox was able to work his way into the points before an error saw him lose all the positions he’d made and he finished 22nd.

In the second moto, he again started mid-pack, but crashed on the fifth lap and injured his ankle, resulting in an unfortunate DNF. As a result, Fox finished out of the points and completed the season 22nd in the final standings.

Blake Fox: “I’m pretty banged-up. I had a tip-over in the second moto, when my toes clipped the sand barriers and I injured my ankle. We’ll go home and get it checked out this week and see what we’re dealing with. The plan was to take a few days off, then start preparing for supercross, but now I’ll need to make sure I’m all good to get started. When we know for sure, I’ll be in full swing. It wasn’t an easy year, but we showed up and gave it everything we had, and hopefully we can turn it around.”

In the MX3 class, Mather pushed through illness in a bid for the MX3 title, finishing the weekend second overall. After qualifying third, Mather and his 2023 Husqvarna FC 250 claimed the opening race win, pouncing on an error from the early race leader, then leaving nothing in the tank on his way to the win.

In the second moto, he started outside the top 10, but put in an inspiring race-long charge around the incredibly rough Coolum circuit to take third in the moto and second in the championship. Also in MX3,  Liam Owens put in two solid performances to finish the weekend in P4, which saw him claim seventh position in the series.

Former Australian MX1 champion and team owner Todd Waters missed the final round of the ProMX Championship after breaking his collarbone at last weekend’s ProMX round at Queensland Moto Park.
