Australian riders can now lodge expressions of interest to race at the Darwin FIM Motocross World Championship finale this September

The world’s best riders will again descend on Darwin for the final round of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship and 2026 FIM Motocross Women’s World Championship from September 18-20.

Expressions of interest are now open for Australian wildcards who would like to compete in the MXGP, MX2 and WMX (women’s) classes at the 2026 MXGP of Australia as world motocross continues Down Under after a spectacular return in 2025.

Successful wildcard applicants will be drawn from Motorcycling Australia riders who have competed or are currently competing in the Penrite Australian Motocross Championship presented by AMX Superstores (ProMX), as well as Australian riders competing internationally.

ProMX competitors in all four major classes – MX1, MX2, MX3 and MXW (women) – can apply for MXGP of Australia wildcard positions, but MX3 riders applying for wildcards in the MX2 world championship must be 15 years old when the event commences on September 18.

Participating riders must comply to the FIM regulations and codes, including the use of the FIM FRHPhe-02 homologated helmets and safety apparel.

In 2025, a total of 25 Australian riders competed as wildcards in the MXGP of Australia, reigniting memories of 2000 and 2001 when the likes of Andrew McFarlane and Michael Byrne produced stunning performances in their cameo world motocross appearances in Victoria.

Last year, Queenslander Charli Cannon performed a similar trailblazing feat when she finished on the podium for the first time in a WMX race.
