Wilson wraps up a powerhouse season for Honda with a dominant final round performance

Dean Wilson wrapped the 2025 AUSX SX1 title with a faultless display in Adelaide, taking out both mains to underline a season he controlled from the front. The Quad Lock Honda rider arrived with a hefty points buffer and immediately took care of business in Race 1, holeshotting into clean air and keeping it tidy to the flag ahead of Luke Clout and Mitchell Harrison, with Hayden Mellross and Aaron Tanti completing the top five. Any temptation to coast on Sunday was parked; Wilson backed up in Race 2 and did it again, fending off a sharp Aron Tanti to win by nearly 5 seconds, with Walsh banking third, Nicoletti fourth and Mellross fifth.

Those Adelaide results capped a campaign that will go down as one of the most commanding in Australian supercross. Across five rounds and ten SX1 finals, Honda swept the lot — Wilson winning eight and Jett Lawrence the other two — with Wilson claiming four overall rounds and finishing second at the remaining event. The numbers tell the story, but so does the resolve behind them: he opened the season under immense personal pressure, then raced the second round on the day he learned of his mum’s passing, producing back-to-back perfect nights and dedicating the effort to the angel on his shoulder. He kept the momentum rolling through Round 3, then split the world-class Lawrence brothers at Round 4 to go second overall as Honda locked out the podium. Arriving in Adelaide with daylight in the standings, he still finished the job by winning both mains.

Reflection on the season, Wilson said, “I went 8 out of 10 finals, it was amazing, so stoked to win especially after everything I went through. I don’t win like I use to, so I cherish the wins we do get.”

“That’s some of my best riding. I was locked in. Life is short, you have to give it your all, and you also have to have fun. Next year will be my fifth season with the team. I don’t know which championship we’ll race yet, but I feel at home with Honda.”

Behind him in the championship, Cedric Soubeyras delivered a gutsy runner-up finish for Honda, riding the finale with four cracked ribs to help secure the brand’s third 1–2 in five seasons. Mellross capped a gritty year with third place in the overall standings for KTM.

“This was one of the hardest weekends of my 25-year career. Breathing was difficult, I felt sick, and I couldn’t take much pain relief. But the team, the experience, everything was amazing. I’m proud of my riding and the result. I hope to return next year, and if I do, I’ll come earlier to prepare properly.”

Team Director Yarrive Konsky hailed the program and his riders for a season of unwavering execution and heart. “Alex is a remarkable talent. Injuries take their toll, but he continues to build confidence. I pushed him hard this weekend because I care and because I know what he’s capable of. Dean was outstanding. I hired him because of his ability, he’s larger than life, which the fans love, but he’s unbelievable on a bike, and he proved that. And Cedric, all I can say is thank you. Thank you for caring enough to race through that level of pain to help Honda secure another 1–2.”
