When it comes to the Sherco 300 SE Racing, I have to admit I’m impressed with what you get for the price. Straight away, the front-end feel stands out. The steering angle is fairly steep, making the bike super responsive and agile. I set the rear sag at 100mm, which helped keep the grip positive up front and gave me a strong sense of control.

The frame has a noticeable amount of flex. Now, I don’t want to sound like Chris Kiefer (though if you know him, you’ll know he’s right about frame flex), but with these Euro bikes it’s something you pick up on quickly. Older Shercos and early GasGas models had the same trait before KTM took over. This Sherco feels similar in that regard — it’s neither good nor bad, just something that will suit some riders and annoy others, depending on style.

Performance-wise, the 300 revs out high but doesn’t have the same low-end grunt as some of its rivals in stock trim. It’s on the lighter side, though, sitting nicely between motocross aggression and enduro stability. Up front it feels sharp and aggressive, which makes it great fun in technical sections, while still durable enough for longer trails.

I’m not a hardcore hard enduro rider, but I do enjoy technical terrain — hopping rocks, navigating ruts, or powering through deep sand. This is where the Sherco shines. It’s nimble and light enough to dance around obstacles, while still feeling planted when the terrain gets rough.

As with most base models, there are a few things missing. A bash plate, for instance, is an essential upgrade if you plan on tackling anything nasty. Step up to the Six Days spec and you get some of those extras plus a more premium feel out of the box.

Overall, the 300 SE Racing is a solid choice for riders who like their bikes lively and versatile. It doesn’t deliver huge torque off the bottom, but it’s fun, durable, and sits in a sweet spot for anyone who likes mixing technical riding with faster terrain. Durability has been spot-on so far.

The standout mod was fitting a JD Jetting kit, which really cleaned up the throttle, along with switching to a 50:1 premix. That sorted the stock jetting issues and now it runs crisp and clean.

In terms of where I’ve ridden, it’s had a mixed diet: from blasting sand dunes and beach tracks to technical climbs in the Blue Mountains and laps around Pacific Park. Everywhere I’ve taken it, the Sherco’s sharp handling has been the biggest takeaway.
