After six months of owning the CFMOTO CX-2E long term test bike, we’ve covered the bike’s great motor with loads of torque and fast top-speed, the stiff suspension, and the adjustment period for Jax to get used to the rear brake pedal on the right foot but we haven’t talked about the weight.

The CFMOTO CX-2E continues to impress with its performance. The bike’s speed, which can reach up to 36 km/h in Mode 3, remains a highlight for Jaxon. He absolutely loves riding fast (I have to close one eye), and the three drive modes (16km/h, 26km/h, and 36km/h) would be good for kids who need to work up to the higher speeds.

The adjustment to the rear brake pedal has been a significant part of Jaxon’s learning curve. Initially, he struggled to remember to use his foot instead of his hand to engage the rear brake, as he was accustomed to from his previous electric bikes. However, with practice and a few reminders from me, he has become much more proficient at using the foot brake.

One of the challenges we’ve noticed is the bike’s weight. At 49kg, the CFMOTO CX-2E is a bit heavy for Jaxon, making it difficult for him to pick up after a crash and harder to hold up if he loses balance. This has led to a few frustrating moments for him, especially during longer riding sessions when he starts to get tired. The bike’s sturdy steel tube, double cradle frame adds to its weight, contributing to its robustness but also to the handling difficulties for a young rider.

The bike gets excellent traction and is still incredibly stable though, which helps mitigate some of the difficulties associated with the bike’s weight. The stiff suspension also contributes to the bikes heavy feel.

Overall, the CFMOTO CX-2E continues to be a fantastic bike for Jax. He loves the motor and the top speed and while the bike’s weight remains a challenge (it’s still almost 10kg lighter than a Yamaha TT-R50E but it’s 20kg heavier than Jaxon’s last long termer, the Torrot Motocross One) it’s a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. And the extra weight is a result of the monster battery, it out lasts any electric bike he’s ever ridden but more on that next time.
