Well, that’s a wrap on the 2024 Husqvarna EE 3. After months of relentless riding, from the farm to the city, through cattle mustering and jumps at the local park, this little electric rocket has done it all – and done it well. Nothing broke. Nothing needed replacing. The only tool we’ve touched was a spanner to tighten the chain. That’s it.

This bike has been a revelation. Being able to ride mid-week in parks around Sydney, where petrol bikes are a definite no-go, has been a game-changer. Jax has taken full advantage of the bike’s silence using it as his weekly ride without worrying about noise complaints or the usual hassles that come with maintaining a petrol-powered 50cc bike. Whether it was skidding through parks, hitting jumps (though not too big, unless you want to bottom out the fork), or blasting over rough terrain, the EE 3 has proven itself as a real dirtbike – not just an electric gimmick.

We went into this test expecting to find at least something that would need tweaking, adjusting or replacing, but that never happened. The EE 3 took everything Jax threw at it and kept going without so much as a loose bolt. It’s been dragged through paddocks, across BMX tracks, over jumps and through the bush, yet here we are, with a bike that still looks and rides like new. Even compared to petrol 50cc bikes this thing is tough.

We’ve seen the reports – some people have had electrical issues, premature component wear and even full battery replacements. That wasn’t our experience at all. Aside from needing to tighten the chain, this bike has been completely drama-free.

The only real issue we had was self-inflicted. We left the charging plug cap off before heading out for a ride and, sure enough, water got in. The bike threw a fault code and we had to dry everything out before it would start again. Annoying? Yes. A deal-breaker? No. Just a good reminder that water and electricity aren’t best mates.

Husqvarna nailed the performance side of things, but the battery run time could’ve been better. The EE 3 is fast, powerful and a proper dirtbike, but if you’re hammering it in Level 6 mode, 45 minutes is about all you’re going to get. The battery hasn’t lost any life over time, which is a win, but realistically an extra 20 minutes would be nice.

For normal riding – mixing up the power levels, cruising and not treating every ride like a full-blown motocross session – it lasts longer.

Husqvarna has built something special here, albeit expensive. If your kid wants an electric dirtbike that actually performs but they don’t want to race, this is the one. It’s fast, fun and ridiculously reliable.

For us, it’s time to say goodbye. The EE 3 has done its job, and it’s done it well. If only all kids’ dirtbikes were this easy to own.
