We have been running a GET SX1 ECU on our Honda CRF250R test bike for more than twenty hours. Apart from the GET ECU, the Honda is completely stock standard and doesn’t have any more than a few clicker adjustments here and there. The GET ECU plugs in easily and fits neatly where the original ECU was located. It then has a wiring harness that runs to the front of the motorcycle to mount a Wi-Fi signal box and a handlebar map switch. This allowed us to not only select between different maps and levels of launch and traction control on the handlebars but also access the ECU through the WiGET app to swap and change maps as we felt necessary.
We Liked
Fitment – Fitment took nothing more than ten minutes. It is relatively easy to mount the new ECU, wiring harness, and handlebar map switch.
Response – Instantly there was a big improvement to the throttle response and low-end power. We were also quickly and easily able to advance the low-end timing through the WiGET app to even further improve the bottom-end power.
WiGET App – The WiGET app with Wi-Fi connectivity is a really useful tool. Not only can you adjust and customise maps, but you can also select between preprogrammed maps to better suit your style and track conditions. It also gives you the ability to check sensors and trouble codes, as well as being able to adjust launch control, traction control, and even recalibrate the throttle position sensor.
We Didn’t Like
Cabling – To be perfectly honest, it was quite hard to actually come up with something to complain about. The only thing I can really think of is the wiring harness that runs from the ECU to the handlebars. As it is a universal cable to fit many different makes and models, the cable is a little extra long and you have to wrap some up and cable-tie it out of the way to hide it and keep everything neat and tidy. It’s not really much of a problem, but that’s about all I’ve got.
Conclusion
I’ll be honest, there are cheaper ECUs on the market, but they don’t offer anywhere near the adjustability or features of the GET ECU. Many other ECUs require an expensive computer program and cabling to connect, but the Wi-Fi connection through the WiGET app allows you to hook up to the ECU and make changes and adjustments yourself without having to pay an engine tuner to gain access to your ECU. If you aren’t up for doing your own tuning, there are still preprogrammed maps you can select from in the app to customise your bike’s power. There is certainly greater value for money in the GET ECU system.
