After months of riding, crashing, sweating, sliding and stuffing this thing into gearbags, the Leatt Moto 8.5 has proven it wasn’t just impressive out of the box, it’s been an absolute weapon long-term. Nothing has loosened, nothing has warped, and nothing smells like a forgotten gym sock. Here’s how it’s holding up.

We Liked
COMFORT The comfort and fit haven’t changed one bit. The padding is still plush, still contours perfectly to the head, and every clip holding the liner and cheek pads in place remains solid. No loose pads, no popping out, no dodgy fitment after cleaning.
FRESH AIR Ventilation continues to shine, too. Even on slow, sweaty enduro days, the inside stays cool and airy, which is rare for a helmet this secure.
SAFETY Safety-wise, this lid has stepped up big time. After a couple of decent knocks, the 360º Turbine Technology has proven its worth. Impacts felt controlled rather than rattling, which is exactly what you want when you’re testing gravity mid-ride.
SHAPE Another huge positive is the shell shape. The rounded, fin-less profile means nothing catches, twists or grabs during a slide. No sharp edges trying to wrench your neck around if you hit the deck and start skating. It’s a massively underrated safety feature and one of my favourite things about this helmet.
We Didn’t Like
PRICE Honestly, the only real drawback remains the same as day one: the price. At $899.95 it’s a premium lid in every sense, and that cost will make some riders wince. But performance-wise, I can’t fault it, the value is there, it’s just a significant investment.

Verdict
After a solid run of months in the bush, the Moto 8.5 hasn’t budged from its place at the top of my gear list. It’s still cool, still comfortable, still stink-free and still feels like a safety blanket built by engineers who actually get how we crash. The durability is outstanding, the safety tech is genuinely impactful and the no-snag shell shape is brilliant for real-world crashes, not just lab testing.
The only hesitation is the upfront cost but if you want a helmet that stays premium long after the gloss wears off, this one’s proving it’s worth every cent. A full breakdown of what’s worn, what hasn’t and how it looks after even more punishment will land in our next update.
