WHAT IS IT? 2018 KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE
WHO? Brett Goodenough
WHERE DID YOU BUY IT? New from Kessner KTM Adelaide
HOW MUCH? $60,000+
HOW MUCH?!
The bike and full race package build parts cost approximately $60k, not including the three months of my time and labour working 13-hour days up to three days straight at times.
WHY DID YOU BUY IT?
To build what KTM would not build: a KTM 1290 SUPER ENDURO R
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO IT?
It’s a 2018 KTM 1290 Super Duke stripped to just the frame, engine and harness Parts. I’ve added parts from various KTMs (1190 Adventure R, 1290 Adventure, 890, 690 and 990) and just about all te aftermarket gear that was available at the time of the build, including from Powercell performance and CJ Designs, a BRP rubber sub-mount, Scotts damper, Baja Designs XL80 and dual S2 lights, Baja Design dual 8-inch LP9s with 10-inch OnX6+ bar, Öhlins TTX long-travel suspension, Kineo billet wheels (Talon/Excel A60 & SMPro lighter wheel set) and an OpenFlash ECU 180hp set. I completeley bypassed the ABS/TCS; it’s back to how dirtbikes are meant to be.
HOW DOES IT GO?
It’s a beast on open tracks like rail-line service roads and is manageable in sand and on singletrack. The ergonomics are spot on.
On a local 76km stretch of dirt I managed 14.98km of fish tailing but I’m too unfit to get further at 57 years old.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BUYING ONE?
Yes, 100 per cent if you want me to build you a 180hp dirtbike. Imagine four XR630s; the torque is pure grin factor.
