Michael Blake has been passionate about two wheels since he started racing motocross at just 7 years old. Always looking for a challenge, he loved exploring trails, tackling creek beds, logs, and hills. Michael has been quite successful competing in state and national level motocross, enduro, and hard enduro and when he discovered SuperEnduro, he knew he had to give it a go. When the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship introduced a new youth category last year, he jumped at the opportunity to join Alfredo Gómez’s race team and a ride a Beta 125 RR.

The Beta 125 has a good amount of power, but it did take some fine-tuning of the carby and gearing to get the bike more suitable for this style of racing. It needed to be able to handle the slower technical sections of the track but still have the quick drive to hit the big jumps. To reduce weight and the risk of breakdowns, anything not necessary for the bike to run – like lights, speedo and some electronics – was stripped off. To keep the bike looking right, a 3D-printed headlight was installed.

Suspension and handling were critical. That’s where Fauser Motos came in, spending a day at the track adjusting the suspension to suit Michael. SuperEnduro demands a unique suspension setup – a combination of motocross forks and a hard enduro rear shock – designed to absorb high-speed impacts on massive logs and tyres while maintaining grip and control through brutal rock gardens. It also needs to handle big jumps, so balance and precision are key. For maximum traction, Michael ran MITAS soft compound tyres with mousses.

SuperEnduro is very demanding on the bike, with logs and rocks taking their toll. To protect the bike, it was fitted with an AXP Racing skid plate with linkage guard, a chain guide, and a set of Polisport unbreakable APT levers – eliminating the risk of snapped levers in a crash.
