There’s nothing quite like the thrill of seeing your little one get on their first dirtbike, and in our house, the 2025 GASGAS MC-E 2 finally delivered that moment for Bonnie. Now, Bonnie’s been chomping at the bit to have her own go on a dirt bike. Her older brother, Jax, who’s now 5, has been living the dream for a while now — testing all kinds of bikes, from the Beta E-Kinder 16 pro to the CFMOTO CX-2E for ADB.
So, naturally, Bonnie’s been on the sidelines, eyes wide, watching Jax rip it up, begging for her turn. The only problem? Up until now, most of the bikes were just too big or too heavy for her little two-and-a-half year-old frame.
That’s where the 2025 GASGAS MC-E 2 comes in, saving the day. This little machine is the perfect fit — small enough for Bonnie to throw a leg over, light enough for her to pick up when she tips it over, and capable enough to give her a proper taste of what dirtbike riding is all about. If you’re looking for a beginner bike that finally gives the little one a shot at keeping up with their older siblings, this is it.
Her First Ride
You should have seen her face when we pulled the MC-E 2 out. It was like Christmas morning. After watching Jax tear up the yard and local tracks for what felt like forever, this was finally Bonnie’s moment. And let me tell you, she didn’t waste a second.
The MC-E 2 is a game-changer in the world of kids’ bikes. Right away, Bonnie felt in control especially in the slow mode. The 27kg weight made it easy for her to manage, and when she inevitably took a spill (as all young riders do), she didn’t even flinch. She picked it right back up, threw a leg over it, and got back to business.
No stress, no frustration — just pure fun. And unlike the Yamaha PW50, which we’ve tested with Jax, the MC-E 2 doesn’t come with the worry of burns from a hot engine or exhaust. That’s a huge win, especially for parents.
Power and Control for Tiny Riders
What really sets the MC-E 2 apart is the power settings. This isn’t just a one-speed wonder. GASGAS has been smart enough to build this thing with three power modes that allow you to gradually introduce your kid to the world of speed without overwhelming them.
Bonnie started on Mode 1, which tops out at a tame 7 km/h —perfect for those first tentative laps around our tight backyard. This mode is super-slow, almost too slow to balance on but great if it’s the first time your little one is riding a dirbtike because if they can get their feet on the ground, they can almost treat it like a balance bike. Once she got a feel for the throttle and started getting comfortable, we bumped her up to Mode 2, where she hit 20 km/h.
For Jax, who’s more seasoned and daring, we cranked it all the way to Mode 3, where the MC-E 2 can rip at 33 km/h. The fact that one bike can cater to both a 2.5-year-old and a 5-year-old is pretty remarkable. No need to buy a whole new bike as they grow — the MC-E 2 scales with them, making it not just fun but a smart investment.
Eventually Bonnie wanted mode 3 and if she was riding in an area with a bit of space, she was fine in Mode 3. And let’s not forget the adjustable seat height, which can be set at 470mm for smaller kids like Bonnie or bumped up to 500mm as they grow taller. The footpegs can even be adjusted to suit different leg lengths.
Why it’s better that petrol
Alright, let’s talk about the obvious comparison, the Yamaha PW50 for a minute. It’s a classic, no doubt, and it’s been the go-to for young riders for years. But times are changing, and the MC-E 2 is leading the charge.
The biggest advantage? Weight and simplicity. At 27kg, it’s lighter than the PW50 (41kg), making it easier for kids like Bonnie to pick up and handle. No need for us as parents to constantly run over and help out — it’s light enough for little ones to manage on their own.
Then there’s the fact that it’s electric. No more messing around with fuel, two-stroke oil, or chains. The MC-E 2 has a hub motor tucked away in the rear wheel, meaning no chains, no sprockets, and no maintenance. It’s as simple as twist and go.
Plus, because it’s electric, it’s nearly silent. You can rip around the backyard without the neighbors giving you the side-eye — another win in my book as the PW50 revs hard to get moving making a lot of noise.
Built tuff
Despite its small size, the MC-E 2 is no toy. It’s built tough, and in Austria, with a centre aluminium frame and a reinforced fiberglass subframe, making it durable enough to handle the inevitable crashes and tumbles. Bonnie tested this aspect out pretty thoroughly, and the bike held up like a champ. There’s no rattling or loosening of parts — everything is solid, even after a few good crashes.
The disc brakes are another standout feature. Front and rear 140mm discs provide heaps of stopping power, which gives the rider, and us parents, peace of mind. Bonnie quickly learned to trust the brakes, stopping confidently and knowing she had full control. It’s a huge step up from the PW50’s drum brakes, which don’t have nearly the same bite or responsiveness.
Hurry up to wait
The battery life on this thing is more than enough to keep kids happy for a solid riding session. With a claimed 100 minutes of runtime, (we got double that as Bonnie never held it pinned or rode 100 straight minutes) Bonnie and Jax got plenty of laps in before we had to think about recharging it. In fact, Bonnie rode on and off all day at a local ride park and we didn’t charge it once.
When the battery finally did run out, the MC-E 2 impressed again with its quick charge time. It only takes an hour to get back to 100%, but even if you’re in a rush, a 35-minute charge gets you to 80%. That’s just enough time for the kids to grab a snack before they’re back at it and the battery is a Husky lawn mower battery so it’s small and easy to charge off a generator (yeah, I know the irony).
Fast lessons
In just a few short rides, we saw Bonnie’s confidence and skills skyrocket. The MC-E 2 is small enough to be non-intimidating but capable enough to let her really develop as a rider. She went from nervous puttering around the yard to confidently taking corners and hitting little jumps with a smile on her face. This bike gave her the opportunity to learn at her own pace, without fear of the bike being too much for her to handle. It’s the perfect stepping stone for any young rider, and I can’t overstate how much it’s helped Bonnie feel like she’s finally part of the crew, keeping up with her big brother.
Winner for the Littlest rippers
The GASGAS MC-E 2 is everything you want in a first bike for your kid. It’s light, durable, and adjustable, so they can grow with it. With three power modes, you can tailor the speed and power to their skill level, and the electric motor means it’s quiet, clean, and easy to maintain. Compared to the Yamaha PW50, the MC-E 2 wins on weight, safety, and simplicity, making it a fantastic choice for parents who want to get their kids started on the right foot.
For Bonnie, this was her first real taste of dirtbike freedom, and she loved every second of it. She’s already asking when she can ride again, and watching her grow more confident on the bike has been an absolute blast. If you’re looking for a bike that’s as safe as it is fun, the MC-E 2 is the way to go.
