KIRK GIBBS BACK ON THE PROMX PODIUM AT MX FARM | Latest | News | Race Reports

GASGAS Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs has launched himself back onto the podium in the ProMX at Gympie's MX Farm.

GASGAS Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs has launched himself back onto the podium after a strong showing in the penultimate round of the 2024 Australian ProMX Championship at Gympie’s MX Farm.

Equipped with the GASGAS MC 450F, Gibbs stormed to a second-fastest qualifying time in the Top 10 Pole Shootout, setting a time that was within a second of the quickest lap.

Gibbsy rocketed off the line of his first MX1 race, rounding the first turn in P2, then soon found himself in the lead at the end of the opening lap. Unfortunately, our former champ hit the dirt a lap later when he got caught out by a slippery section of track, but he remounted and worked his way back to P4 before time ran out.

Another fast start to the second moto saw the Sunshine Coast-based racer in the top three early on, before he put the heat on to challenge for second through the duration of the race. Despite some big efforts to get past, Gibbs was slowed by a lapped rider on the closing lap and settled for a well-earned P3 and third overall.

With just one round left to run at Queensland Moto Park next weekend, Gibbs is fourth in the championship standings, but has closed the gap to third to 18 points.

Kirk Gibbs: “It feels good to be on the podium again, but to be honest, I wanted to take the win. It’s been five years since I’ve won an overall and I wanted to put everything into today. Unfortunately, the first moto cost me – I was out front and threw it away. When I got in the lead, I thought I’d ride at 90 percent because it was so slick… I didn’t even push into the turn, but the front-end was gone before I could save it. The second moto, I was battling with both championship contenders and putting the heat on the red plate-holder, but didn’t want to make it aggressive, so I settled for P3. I feel my riding was good, but the track was quite hard to race on. I’m happy with the podium, although at the same time, I feel it could’ve been more.”
