LONG TERM TEST #3 | EUNORAU UHVO | Bike Reviews

Our time on the EUNORAU UHVO has come to an end so how did it hold up? We check in with ADB Ed Mitch Lees to see if it survived.

Never before has ADB run an electric mountain bike on the long term fleet of test bikes. But with more and more riders turning to electric pedallys to keep the weight off and their fitness at peak dirtbike levels, I thought I’d get on the band wagon. The problem was, most recognizable electric mountain bikes cost over $5000 and I didn’t have that sort of cash. So I hunted around and found the EUNORAU UHVO, a cheap, Chinese machine that looked the part.

I went online and ordered one and four weeks and $1800 later it was on my doorstep. As EUNORAU were only online when I bought it, it required some assembly which was easy and all the important stuff came in the box. I couldn’t believe it, a dual suspension electric mountain bike delivered to my door for under $2000!

If you’ve been following my updates on this machine you’ll know how it performs. To quickly recap, after my first ride it was clear to me that the 250w, hub drive bike is better suited to cross country-type trails and not downhill. The suspension was way too soft to smash into rock or send it off drops and the brakes were not strong enough to stop me. But as a bush cruiser it was okay and as a weight shredder excellent.

I ended up riding everywhere, whether it was to get the milk and bread or pick up the kids from daycare, and that meant no driving. I was dropping weight fast and within three months I had not only saved a huge amount of fuel but I’d also shed over 10kg! So as a tool to get in shape to go racing this year, it worked quite well because I don’t think I would’ve taken a regular pedal bike out like I did.

In regards to what has broken, you’ll be pleased to hear it is still running fine. I managed to drop the bike and snap the rear brake lever, I lost the bolt holding the left pedal in place and I ploughed through a set of brake pads in 600km. Somehow I got air in the rear brake line and it has been awful to rectify and one of the wires pulled out at the female end so the bike would randomly stop working. I found the wire and taped it together.

Apart from those niggling little issues, the motor is still working, the battery still gets over 40km, the power is still strong enough to do over 25km/h on the flat, the suspension hasn’t leaked and the frame hasn’t snapped! The rims and tyres are still round and inflated and the brakes still stop it. What else could you ask from $1800!
