LONG TERM TEST BIKE | SHERCO 300 SE FACTORY #12 | Bike Reviews

It’s official, the Sherco 300 SE Factory long term test bike is on its way home so we checked in with ADB Ed Mitch Lees to see how it's going.

By the time you read this I will have just handed back the 2023 Sherco 300 SE Factory long term test bike to Mojo Motorcycles so it can be reborn and moved on to another two-stroke loving owner. In the next issue of ADB we will run a feature on my time with the Sherco and the things I’ve liked and disliked about living with it but before I get to that, I just wanted to share an experience I recently had with the 2023 Sherco 300 SE Factory long term test bike.

December is marking time on our family cattle farm. Our property is quite rugged and has more hills than flat spots. We usually use a combination of ag-bike, quad, buggy and dog but recently I’ve introduced dirtbike. The benefit of something like the ag-bike or quad is that they’re slow moving, rarely overheat and can get into some tight spaces. Well one thing the last 12 months has taught me is that the Sherco can do all that too!

That by no way means the Sherco 300 SE Factory long term test bike is a glorified ag-bike but somehow it’s capable of serious farm work. Here’s why it is great at farm work.

First up, it loves going slow (it also loves being ridden like it’s been stolen). The Sherco 300 SE Factory motor is a real lugger and can crawl along slower than most ag-bikes, especially with my 51-tooth rear sprocket. But, if a steer decides to bolt I can cut it off much quicker than a quad or ag-bike.

Secondly, it doesn’t overheat. The Sherco Factory comes with a thermo fan and in the heat of December while hardly getting above a brisk walk, the Sherco never boiled or overheated.

Finally, the Sherco can go much further than an ag-bike or quad. The Sherco 300 SE Factory long term test bike has 355mm of ground clearance which gives it over 10cm more clearance space than a Honda CTX200. It’s more lightweight and easier to throw around. Sure the seat height might make getting on and off a pain in the arse but the riding capabilities outweigh that for me. And while it may cost double the price of an ag-bike and it doesn’t have a carry rack or clutch lever holder for serious work, as a musterer, it’s excellent. Plus, I can work with it on Friday and go play with it on Saturday!

Oh and my son absolutely loves it. He likes to follow us around mustering on his Kawasaki Elektrode and he always asks me to bring out the “real dirtbike” for mustering because we practice wheelies together.

The Sherco 300 SE Factory long term test bike has proved to be one of the most versatile bikes I’ve ever ridden from slow stuff to fast stuff, tight and technical to open terrain, even mustering, it can do it all with no problem
