Endless erosion jumps, rock tunnels and even snow – adventure riding in New England High Country is a ride on the wild side! Follow Sam Maclachlan, Martyn Blake and Josh Evans, together with TravelIn.com.au, as they explore this incredible region that makes for a thrill seeker’s dream.
Even though it turned out to be the coldest week in the region for 20 years, the crew say the rarity of snow made their adventure even better.
With three new BMW adventure bikes loaded up for the trip, the boys found the R1200GS, F700GS and F800GS all well-suited to the combination of bitumen, dirt, snow and rivers.
The ride through this magnificent region suits all kinds of adventure bikes – the big and medium-sized BMWs loved getting kays under the wheels but were also able to tackle the more challenging areas.
The versatile 1200 won on the open roads and its sheer grunt made up for its weight disadvantage to the nimble 800. The F700GS was the tamest of the lot, but it still went everywhere its siblings did.
Exploring New England High Country proved its worth as an adventure-bike destination, blending superb views, easy-to-ride dirt roads with challenging and fun detours and of course the magnificent Oxley Highway – one of the best bitumen roads in Australia.
