WHAT IS IT? 1999 Kawasaki KX250.
WHO? Jay Cox
WHERE DID YOU BUY IT? Facebook Marketplace, Riverstone, NSW.
HOW MUCH? $4500
WHY DID YOU BUY IT?
My first memory of falling in love with the sport was in primary school. Walking down to my dad’s workshop after school, we’d watch the AMA Motocross on the old Foxtel boxes with the cards you would insert in them. It was the 2001 season and RC was dominating on his Chevy Trucks KX250 in orange Fox gear. I was racing a KX65 at the time so naturally he was my favourite rider back then. It’s just a memory that’s stuck with me forever and I found myself this bike for my 30th birthday present to myself.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO IT?
It’s had a full ground-up rebuild. Every single nut, bolt, axle is NOS from Japan, besides a couple that have been re-nickled. It has a Flo Green powdercoat frame, welded frame tabs for carbon skid plate and alloy water pump guard (same combo the team ran), and vapour-blasted swingarm and subframe etc. like Carmichael’s in 2001. It has custom EZE triple clamps to match the KHI factory clamps used by the team, newer KX-F front end, Kashima coated fork tubes and DLC lowers, custom catch can and Pro Circuit carb canister, NOS Pro Circuit dog bones, custom titanium parts, billet clutch pull arm, Vforce 3 reed block, vapour-blasted Phathead, full Pro Circuit exhaust, carpeted parts, Envy hubs, Excel rims, braided brake lines, JetSki spark plug cap as used by the team that year, FMF ignition with ’bar switch, Garage 11 carbon frame guards, carbon airbox covers, very rare Flo Green plastics, vented front plate, custom ringmasters seat cover (copy of the team that year), legitimate fluoro sticker kit from the UK (not clear), TiN shock shaft, suspension set-up etc. The list is too long…
HOW DOES IT GO?
It hasn’t been ridden.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BUYING ONE?
I’d highly recommend buying any bike you’ve always wanted to build.
