After months living with the 2025 Sherco SE 300 Racing, it’s finally time to hand back the keys… and I’m not sure I’ve ever dreaded a goodbye quite like this one. I’ve ridden plenty of bikes over the years, but very few manage to genuinely shift the benchmark. The SE 300 Racing didn’t just stand out, it changed what I expect from a modern enduro bike. And I can’t believe this model was the base model!

From the very first ride, the Sherco felt uncannily familiar. It delivers proper enduro capability wrapped in a motocross-style cockpit that instantly feels like home for riders who bounce between MX tracks and the bush. The ergonomics are slim, aggressive and completely natural, nothing awkward or foreign, and that comfort translated into confidence in every type of terrain.

It wasn’t faultless out of the box. Like any carby two-stroke, we had a couple of small jetting quirks early on. Nothing dramatic, just typical “two-stroke personality” moments while we dialled things in. Once we corrected the float height and sorted the needle, the bike became a different animal. From then on, we didn’t touch the jetting for the rest of the test. After cold mornings, humid afternoons and alpine climbs it stayed clean, crisp and reliable in every situation.

That consistency made the SE 300 an absolute weapon in tight, technical singletrack. It has that rare balance of being calm and controlled off-pipe yet instantly ready to bark when the trail demands urgency. In faster, flowing terrain the motocross influence becomes even clearer. The chassis is compliant yet lively, inviting you to push harder without ever feeling sketchy or unpredictable.

This is where the Sherco really earns its stripes. It’s the true underdog of the class but an underdog with the polish of a factory racer and the versatility of a seasoned trail bike. It impressed everywhere without trying to beat you up in the process.

And now comes the hardest part: giving it back. I’ve tested plenty of bikes that were fun, some that were memorable, but very few that made me enjoy every type of riding as much as this one. The SE 300 made hard days easier, good days unforgettable, and left me seriously considering one for my own shed.

When the time comes to buy my next enduro bike, the choice feels almost obvious, it’ll be the Sherco SE 300 Racing… or maybe its 300 SEF Factory four-stroke sibling, which carries much of the same magic.

Big thanks to Mitch and Sherco for an absolute belter of a long-termer.
