Hunter Lawrence has thrown the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship wide open with a dominant win in Denver, reducing the gap to points leader Ken Roczen to just one point ahead of the final round in Salt Lake City.

Round 16 at Empower Field at Mile High delivered a critical shift in momentum in one of the closest 450SMX title fights in recent history. The 20 minutes plus one lap main event began with Jorge Prado taking the holeshot ahead of Lawrence and Eli Tomac, while Cooper Webb slotted into fourth and Roczen into fifth.

Lawrence made his move immediately, taking the lead on lap two as the field reshuffled behind him following a stall from Tomac. Roczen worked his way forward, passing Webb and Prado to move into second, but faced a 4.5-second deficit with just under 17 minutes remaining.

With clear track ahead, Lawrence extended his advantage to nearly 10 seconds, effectively controlling the race from the front. Roczen settled into second to manage points, while Tomac recovered from his early mistake to pass both Prado and Webb and claim third, marking his ninth podium of the season and the 111th of his Supercross career, tying him with Jeremy McGrath for second on the all-time list.

At the chequered flag, Lawrence secured his fifth win of the season by 13.2 seconds over Roczen, with Tomac completing the podium. The result leaves just one point separating the two title contenders, with both riders tied on five wins and 12 podium finishes each.

Hunter Lawrence: “It’s good. When I see the 30 second board go sideways I get so excited. Let’s go out, have fun, and do what I love to do. It couldn’t have been much better than that. I’m really happy. Let’s go to Salt Lake, baby.”

Ken Roczen: “It was a great race, I’m honestly happy with it. I just wasn’t fast enough, all day really. I know I had a great lap in qualifying, but Hunter was on it all day. Once I got into second, I tried a little bit but I didn’t want to override because it was going to be a long main event. We had a four-point lead, it’s one point now. It is what it is going into the last race.”

Eli Tomac: “I’m just glad to land on the podium for the Colorado fans. I was so bummed when I stalled in the sand. I was able to claw back and have some fun on this track. It was a good bounce back. I’m just happy to be back for these last two rounds.”

With Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship heading to its final round, Lawrence and Roczen will go head-to-head in Salt Lake City for the title, with Cooper Webb now mathematically eliminated following an 11th-place finish after a late crash.
