Lucas Coenen tightened his grip on the 2026 MXGP World Championship with a dominant performance at the German Grand Prix, leading every lap across both motos to secure his third overall victory of the season for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
Round seven of the championship at the infamous Talkessel circuit dished up brutal conditions after overnight rain transformed the hardpack German layout into a muddy, technical mess where starts became critical and mistakes were heavily punished. Despite the conditions, Coenen was untouchable.
The Belgian grabbed holeshots in both motos and simply checked out from the field, controlling the races from the front while extending his championship lead to 31 points. It marked another huge statement from the 19-year-old as he continues building momentum in the premier class.
“A good weekend. Two holeshots and led every lap,” Coenen said. “On that type of track you can easily make a mistake, so I had to stay calm.”
Behind him, Andrea Adamo delivered a breakthrough result in just his seventh MXGP appearance. The former MX2 world champion backed up a difficult first moto with a strong ride to third in race two, securing second overall and giving KTM its first 1-2 result of the 2026 MXGP season.
“Amazing. My first podium in my rookie season,” Adamo said after the race.
In MX2, Sacha Coenen narrowly missed the overall victory but still walked away with the championship red plate.
The Belgian dominated moto one from start to finish before a small mistake while leading early in race two dropped him back. Despite recovering to second, it wasn’t enough for the overall win, although his points haul was enough to move him into the MX2 championship lead.
Meanwhile, former red plate holder Simon Laengenfelder battled illness all weekend and salvaged fifth overall in front of his home crowd after finishing 8-3 across the two motos. He now trails Coenen by just three points in the standings.
The MXGP Championship now heads to Kegums next weekend for the Latvian Grand Prix, completing the third round of the current European triple-header.
